You don’t have to know the difference between a malbec and a cabernet to embrace this fall’s wine-inspired beauty trend. Merlot-hued lipstick is a favorite of both makeup artists and celebs, thanks to its velvety richness, bold effect, and unique ability to work with just about every skin tone.
“Wine lip colors are usually blue based reds which are flattering on most skin tones because they brighten everything and make your eyes look more alive and whiter,” says makeup artist Robert Greene.
If merlot shades are out of your comfort zone, start with a stain so you can control the intensity, Greene says. “I suggest using a lip pencil because they’re more pigmented, have real staying power, and provide a nice stain that will last.”
Enjoy these gorgeous merlot lip colors without fear of a hangover.
