On Monday, personal trainer Madalin Giorgetta announced some exciting news on Instagram: She is featured in the latest issue of the Australian magazine Women’s Health & Fitness. It’s the photo itself that Giorgetta is particularly proud of: Giorgetta intentionally sent the publication a photo featuring what she called her “butt dimples.”
In an Instagram post on Monday, the personal trainer told her 394,000 followers that when she initially saw the photo, taken by her sister, she meant to delete it but forgot to. When she had an opportunity to submit pictures to Women’s Health & Fitness, she sent the photo on a whim along with a few more “perfect” ones. “I hesitated to send this picture as I didn’t know how I’d feel about this being on every newsstand in Australia. In a ‘what the hell’ moment I emailed it through, and the editor told me it was the picture there were deciding to print,” she wrote.
With the image out in the open, Giorgetta says she’s happy with her decision. “Now that I see it in print, I’m extremely proud and so happy I made the decision to publish a photo of myself that shows me for me,” she said. “No editing, no booty pose, just me, a giant coconut and my goofy grin.”
As of now the post has over 20,000 likes and hundreds of supportive comments from people inspired by Giorgetta’s choice. “I took a photo of myself earlier and all my thoughts were just hateful of myself. I see this picture of you looking gorgeous, cellulite and all. I’m so happy that someone I totally look to for fitness guidance is both insanely gorgeous but also human still,” one user said. Another commenter wrote that Giorgetta’s positivity “[makes] me feel more secure about my body.”
The personal trainer has spoken up in the past about body confidence: She recently shared a post encouraging fans to follow accounts that uplift them, not bring them down, as well as a post about why people shouldn’t base their self-worth on the number on the scale.
