Women do all sorts of things to feel beautiful, whether it’s getting their nails done every week or buying clothes that they love. This fact doesn’t change as they get older — just like women decades younger than them, centenarians who’ve reached the triple digits enjoy moments to treat themselves and accentuate their features.
“My style? Well I think it’s not ostentatious; I don’t like that,” explains 103-year-old Frances. “But I like it to be sort of tailored and smart-looking and comfortable.” Each centenarian, however, is different, and they figured out their signature style over decades of time.
That said, women couldn’t always express themselves in so many different ways. While we may take for granted the number of fashion choices that are accepted nowadays, that wasn’t always the case. “In the beginning, I never used to wear pants to school,” one centenarian comments. “I don’t know, I thought it was ladylike to wear pantyhose and skirts and so on. But then when I started to wear pants, I didn’t have to pull out the pantyhose and it felt good.” We don’t blame her.
Regardless of what your style preferences are, these ladies have a few words of wisdom when it comes to loving what you wear. “I dress for myself, because I never know where I’m going to land or where I’m going to sing or what I’m going to do,” centenarian Frances concludes. “And I like that. It’s kind of a surprise for me.” Their main message? Treat yourself, and do whatever makes you feel like you’re always at your best. At the same time, be open-minded to what else is out there, especially as the times continue to change.
