It seems in the year 2017, the Internet’s collective interest in creatively shaped eyebrows just won’t fade. The latest look to hit Instagram that we can’t decide if we love or…not so much? “Heart brows.”
Originally posted by meme accounts like @sopigmentedmemes and @makeupparamedics, heart brows show a perfectly groomed eyebrow with a little heart-shaped hole carved into the peak of the arch. Shaving off a part of your precious brow seems a bit extreme, but these photos could very well be photoshopped. Nonetheless, there’s surely a YouTube tutorial waiting to happen here.
Other eyebrow trends that have taken over social media just this year include barbed wire brows, feather brows, and maybe the most peculiar: squiggle brows. To achieve these unique looks, most makeup artists use glue to create the shape, concealer, setting powder, and eyeliner gel or pomade, instead of actually tweezing or waxing a more permanent squiggle on your face. So, perhaps there is a less committed route for anyone game to try heart brows.
Instagram users responded with mixed reactions to a post on @teenagers page about heart brows. So far more than 3,000 people have liked the image and more than 100 have commented. Many have pointed out the extra maintenance involved with the look. One user noted, “You know how much extra grooming you gotta do to do that? And when you don’t want it anymore you’ve have this gross unclean heart on your eyebrow for like a year.” Others lamented just how many eyebrow trends have popped up this year, writing, “Can’t we have normal eyebrows 😭😂”.
But, as one commenter said, it’s up to the person how extra their brows are: “It’s just a makeup trend, let people have fun with it and stop being so damn rude if you don’t like it, thanks.” Oh, and if you do shave a hole in your brow, eyebrow wigs can always help cover it up.
