Since the inception of Jen Atkin’s hair-care line Ouai hit shelves, nearly every product has proved to be a hit. The Wave Spray, Memory Mist, and Curl Jelly are just a few worth mentioning, as they’ve managed to amass some major love from fans, editors, and bloggers alike. And, if the aforementioned products’s success is any indication, something tells me the newest addition to the Ouai fam won’t be any different. In fact, I happen to have a very, very good feeling about this one.
Can I get a drumroll please?
Introducing Ouai’s new Volume Spray, which just launched today (!) and follows in the footsteps of the brand’s already-fly Volume Shampoo and Conditioner. Put it this way: For my fellow fine-haired friends who struggle with flat, lifeless strands, this lightweight spray is a godsend. Formulated with hair-softening hibiscus extract and thickening polymers, as well as other conditioning and protective agents like panthenol, this floral-scented mist gives lackluster hair some life. And TBH, I’ve never met a mortal who didn’t love a little volume (hell, even my thick-haired friends are fans of a little lift.)
What’s more: I was lucky enough to try the wonder stuff for myself and am happy to report that it is in fact, the bomb.com. I simply spritzed some on my damp strands from roots to ends and followed by blasting my hair with a blow-dryer on its cool setting for 30 or so seconds. (Your girl was running late.) And that was it. By the time I got to the office 20 minutes later, my hair was dry, shiny, and blessed with the aforementioned “life” I was telling you about. My strands even felt silkier than usual and had the faint smell of bergamot, Italian lemon (yum), and other floral notes that are synonymous with the brand’s signature scent. Consider me sold.
To find out more about the Ouai Volume Spray, see what Atkin herself had to say about her latest launch, below.
Allure: When creating the Volume Spray, what were your main goals? What did you ultimately want out of it?
Jen Atkin: We wanted to create a product that leveraged the time that girls with fine hair actually spent on their daily on blowouts. The Volume Spray gives your hair body and supercharges it so that their freshly blow-dried hair lasted longer.
Allure: Did you consult any friends, family, or consumers about what they wanted from a volume-boosting product?
Atkin: YES! We took to Snapchat and Instagram. We found that volume is sort of like a push-up bra and everyone wants to look like they have big voluminous hair, but no one wants you to know that it’s not naturally like that. Thus, when we started developing this product we knew that we had to make it your secret weapon for volume.
Allure: Amazing. Do you have to blow-dry your hair in order to get the benefits or can you let your hair air dry and still see results?
Atkin: Best results happen in the privacy of your bathroom on damp hair with the help of a blow dryer, but you can absolutely hit your roots with a light mist and zhuzh it up for a quick high.
Allure: How exactly does it help to thicken and soften the hair?
Atkin: Volume Spray contains super lightweight volumizing polymers (that set with the help of a blow dryer) to thicken and lift hair and hibiscus extract to soften hair and improve elasticity.
Allure: Is there anyone you wouldn’t recommend the Volume Spray for?
Atkin: Honestly, who doesn’t want a little volume boost? I want to meet that girl.
Allure: How does it differ from other similar volume-boosting products on the market?
Atkin: Volume Spray is all about natural-looking volume that lasts. Most other volume sprays leave your hair looking crispy and crunchy. No one wants to look like they tried too hard.
