We’ve long been fans of Ever Skin, the comprehensive line of skin-care and body products touting clean, effective, formulas and chicer-than-chic packaging. (Case in point: Four different products have snatched up Best of Beauty wins, including the fan-favorite body butter that at one point had a 2,000 person wait list). Now, three years after the brand first launched comes Ever Makeup.
“The goal of Ever Skin was to marry luxury and efficacy with affordability and accessibility, with clean skin care that delivered transformative results. It was only natural to expand beyond skin care, and apply these same principles to makeup,” says Ever general manager, Ani Hadjinian, of the decision to move into the color space. The makeup line also abides by the same concept of keeping options tightly-edited, without an overwhelming array of choices. We’re talking only four must-have products: mascara, lip gloss, a cheek and eye palette, and brow pencil, plus three brushes — a final line-up that was created with busy women (insert hand-raising emoji here) in mind.
“These are the makeup essentials you need to get out the door in minutes. An edited line allows for more fun with makeup, with less fuss about what to use and how to use it,” Hadjinian says. (More on the product specifics in a minute.) Like its skin care sister, Ever Makeup touts clean formulas, without questionable ingredients such as parabens, sulfates, and phthalates, and with the brand’s signature LSR10 complex. Antioxidant-rich magnolia oil is the star of the show, making for smooth and silky application, while also offering a host of skin-care benefits.
But back to the products themselves. The collection may be limited, but the shade choices and versatile formulas made the line feel comprehensive and complete, without leaving us wanting for more in the way of color products. Take the Out the Door Cheek and Eye Palette ($68) comes in two shade ranges, one lighter and one darker, each with three cheek colors and three shadows. The silky powders (secret sauce — added magnolia oil and no talc) applied and blended beautifully and layered easily. And while there’s no shortage of ways to mix and match the six hues, a helpful diagram on the back offers a step-by-step tutorial for anyone wanting to utilize all six. Bonus points for the compact’s size, especially the mirror that’s large enough for you to actually see what you’re doing.
There are six shades of (my personal fave) the Flash Power Plumping Gloss ($29), too, all wearable nudes ranging from a sheer ballerina pink to a rich mauve. There are also choices when it comes to the finishes, with both cream and shimmer options. That good ol’ magnolia oil smooths and softens, giving the formula an almost balm-like feel. A refreshingly minty tingle tipped us off to the subtle plumping effects, while the non-tacky finish had us hooked at first swipe.
As the name suggests, Whiplash Speed Volumizing Mascara ($25) adds fullness — up eight times the volume, says Hadjinian of what he calls the line’s hero product — but elongates lashes too, thanks to length-enhancing fibers. I liked it’s shiny (and non-smudgy) finish that made my lashes look extra lush. Look for the Frame Precision Brow Pencil ($24) to join the fun next month, a long-wearing, smudge-resistant twist-up. A firm tip gave me the same definition and precise application as a traditional pencil, but was just slightly softer, making it nice and blendable when I brushed through my brows.
The entire Ever Makeup collection will be available starting today at 9AM PST and 12PM EST on the brand’s website. Now let’s just hope these products don’t end up having the same waitlist as that darn body butter…
