On today’s episode of “what lace?”, Love and Hip-Hop Atlanta hairstylist Chiquita Ingram showed off a flawless lace-front on her Instagram, that looked more natural than real hair. Seriously, I had to rub my eyes to make sure I wasn’t seeing things. Ingram is an Atlanta-based hairstylist at The Kellon Deryck Salon. If Deryck’s name sounds familiar, that’s because he’s responsible for creating looks for Monica, Blac Chyna, Missy Elliot, and many more.
Ingram debuted the blue, purple, and seafoam-hued wig on her Instagram page. It included a section of diamond parts, all joined together by rubber bands, and the entire style looks as if came sprouting out of her client’s scalp. “Bleaching of the knots and a stocking cap that matches her skin tone is the best way to ensure that the partings come out as natural as possible,” Ingram tells Allure. While each stylist has their own technique for creating such natural looks, Bey’s is simple. “I make sure [the wig] is plucked to mimic the exact hairline of the client. If the hairline is thick, it can [look like the hair on a Barbie Doll]. If it’s too thin, you will be able to spot the lace,” she explained.
Ingram styles Love and Hip-Hop Atlanta stars like Bambi and Tresure, with a true method to her madness. “The best thing a client can do to ensure an absolutely flawless look is to make sure the lace is either transparent, your exact skin tone, or lighter than your complexion. If the lace is too dark, it is almost impossible to match. If it’s too light, I can use a variety of techniques to tint the lace to match the client’s complexion,” she reveals.
In the meantime, we’ll be here trying to book an appointment with Ingram to get our wigs slays and laid to perfection.
