Paris Jackson knows how to make a beauty statement. She’s not afraid to play around with different hair colors, experiment with bold makeup shades, show off her armpit hair (and make sure people know that it’s NBD to do so), or simply not wearing any makeup at all while walking down the red carpet. And it’s this willingness to take risks, coupled with her desire to challenge society’s traditionally held beauty norms, that keeps us intrigued, wondering what Jackson is going to do next. Well, last night at a party to celebrate Dior’s newest fragrance launch, Sauvage, Jackson showed us, stepping out with yet another major beauty moment, this time showing up with some seriously cool graphic eye makeup.
The two-toned wings were the handiwork of British-born, LA-based makeup artist Jo Baker, who works regularly with Jackson. And this time around, Baker and Jackson graciously gave Allure an exclusive, behind-the-scenes glimpse at how the look came together. Keep scrolling to learn how Baker created the look using some of Dior’s newest makeup launches, and get an insider’s look at the getting ready process for one of Hollywood’s most intriguing celebs.
INSPIRATION: “Paris got out of the shower and had some mascara residue under her eyes, which I thought looked super rock’n’roll. I liked the idea of creating something bold and modern but with a grunge-desert griminess to it. Therefore, the under eye residue was left on and kept as part of the look. I was inspired by the bold logo and cartoon-like embroidery on Paris’ Dior skirt (shown above). It had fun, playful bead-and-thread work with bold black outlines. I wanted to create a graphic, punchy winged cat eye (which is Paris’ favorite look). I also wanted a stark solid block with some color play. Since the event was being held at sunset, it made this look even more striking and it stood out perfectly against the desert sky.”
COMPLEXION: “First I prepped Paris’ skin with Dior Capture Youth Glow Booster Age-Delay Illuminating Serum. For foundation, I applied Diorskin Forever Undercover #015 Tender Beige. I added a soft, subtle, sun-kissed glow with Diorskin Mineral Nude Bronze #003 Soft Sundown.
EYES: “I let Paris choose one of the colors for the eye look. She gravitated towards Diorshow On Stage Liner #876 Matte Rusty (a wine-colored liquid liner), which I paired with Diorshow On Stage Liner #001 Matte White. We like to call this look “couture cartoon grunge chic” — so basically a cartoon-inspired, white-winged graphic eye with a merlot-colored top border outline. First I created the white block, then I traced the top outline with the purple pen. To complete the eyes, I added heaps of black mascara to both her top and bottom lashes.”
LIPS: I lined her lips with Dior Contour Lipliner Pencil in Grege, which is a pinky nude hue. Then I applied a generous coat of Dior Addict Lipstick in White Splash — a product that we are newly obsessed with! It’s the perfect balm with an iridescent gleam to it.”
