I’ve been testing skin-care products long enough to know there are seldom that deliver instant results. Don’t get me wrong: I’m not to saying ones that don’t are bad — by any means — it’s just that most treatments tend to take some time to work their magic and make a noticeable difference. That’s not the case with Foreo’s new UFO smart facial device, though, which promises results in just 90 seconds. (Let that sink in).
Despite its moniker, Foreo’s revolutionary new device is anything but alien. In fact, it marries two things I adore: sheet masks and fast-acting products. Though the UFO takes the latter to a whole new level, guaranteeing a clearer, calmer, and healthier-looking complexion in just a minute and a half flat. Needless to say, I was intrigued and couldn’t help but wonder if it would actually work as well as it claims to. There was one way to find out.
I decided to give the device a try the morning after a night of indulging in one too many glasses of wine. (OK, you caught me, there was pizza, too — and it showed all over my skin.) I woke up red, puffy, and all kinds of dehydrated and knew it was the perfect time to put the device to the test.
How it works is as interesting as its appearance, which looks straight out of the future. The first step is to download the corresponding app, which scans your device as well as the treatment mask you select. It comes with two: “Make My Day”, which contains skin-plumping hyaluronic acid and calming red algae, and “Call It a Night”, which is infused with radiance-boosting olive oil and ginseng. Both come in the form of tiny circular sheet masks that you place on the device, which then uses a combination of LED light therapy, T-sonic pulsations, and hyper-infusion technologies to enhance their efficacy and ensure the nutrients is absorbed into the deepest layers of the skin.
Once you’ve secured your chosen sheet mask to the UFO, you can start gliding it across your skin in circular motions until the 90 seconds is up. And you’ll know when it is because it conveniently tells you on the app — that, and the device will stop vibrating to signal time’s up, too. For my first round, I went with the daytime formula, and I didn’t want it to end. The aforementioned hyper-infusion technology features a warming and a cooling mode, both of which work in different ways to rejuvenate the skin. Thermo-Therapy allows the mask’s ingredients to penetrate in just seconds, while Cryo-Therapy aids in firming, lifting, and tightening the skin.
The whole process is high-tech but surprisingly seamless. And if you ask me, it makes you feel like you’re getting a luxe, in-office treatment in the comfort of your own home. The results are what sealed the deal for me, though. After a minute and a half of massaging my face, I stopped and patted the remaining essence into my skin per the directions. Then I looked in the mirror and nearly fell over. Was I seeing things? I wondered. I couldn’t be. My complexion looked decidedly clearer and plumper, with the wine-induced redness around my mouth greatly reduced, and my skin felt softer than it had in weeks. Weeks!
The only caveat? At $279, Foreo’s UFO clearly doesn’t come cheap, but the brand does offer a 10-year quality guarantee. Plus, based on my results, I personally think it’s worth the investment. Not only is it one of the quickest ways to treat your skin, but it’s also safe for all skin types — even the most sensitive — and it’s 100 percent waterproof and portable. (It’s all about the perks, people).
If you’re someone who’s hoping to cut their skin-care routine in half without sacrificing results, I’d highly recommend picking up a UFO for yourself to see if it works as well for you as it did for me. Interested? You can purchase one now at foreo.com.
